ABOUT US

Our Church

covchurchpic.jpg

Covenant Presbyterian Church was founded in 1981 as a home Bible Study and in 1983 moved to a chapel under the name of Friendship Presbyterian Chapel. In 1985, we became a member of the Presbyterian Church of America and shortly after, in 1986, we moved to our current property at 440 North Columbia Street and changed our name to Covenant Presbyterian Church.

The church initially met in a large house on the property. The church was blessed with growth and in 1992 construction began on a new sanctuary, which is where we worship today. Our current pastor, Reverend Kreg Bryan, was called to our church in 2016 and has served the church faithfully since then.

Pastor Bryan grew up believing in Christ in a Christian home in Ohio and attended Malone College where he graduated with a degree in communication in 1987. It was there he met his wife Julie and they married in 1988. He soon felt the call to ministry and after a 3 month mission trip to India attended Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary where he earned his M.Div. in 1992. He has served as the Senior Pastor at churches in Newport, RI; Savannah, GA; Hudson, OH; and Lexena, KS as well as serving as the Headmaster at Whitfield Academy in Kansas City, MO before taking the call as Senior Pastor at Covenant in June 2016. He and his wife Julie have four children and six grandchildren.

OUR DISTINCTIVES

EVANGELICAL

We emphasize the gospel, the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ, as well as affirming other orthodox Christian doctrines and holding to the inerrancy of Scripture. We submit to the Holy Scriptures as the only rule of faith and life.

REFORMED

We are connected to the teachings of the historic church and the doctrinal beliefs recovered by the Reformation. These doctrinal beliefs are expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. All officers of the Presbyterian Church in America must personally subscribe to and uphold the teachings of the Westminster Confession of Faith.

PRESBYTERIAN

Local churches are governed by a “session” of “presbyters” (elders), elected by the members of the congregation. Representatives of local churches within a geographical area compose a “presbytery.” Representatives of presbyteries meet annually at “General Assembly.” Thus, through the combined efforts, we are enabled to advance God’s Kingdom much more effectively.

For God’s glory, Covenant Presbyterian Church is committed to:

  • Evangelizing Milledgeville, the Oconee area, and the world for Jesus Christ

  • Equipping and discipling Christians to a more faithful walk with Christ

  • Ministering to the needs of the people of Covenant Presbyterian Church

  • Ministering to the needs of the people of Milledgeville and the Oconee area

…so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ             (1 Peter 4:11).

Covenant was founded with a desire to serve the community and we continue this mission today through outreach locally, regionally, and globally. Learn more about our outreach efforts and how you can get involved here.

OUR BELIEFS

  • We believe the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts and is authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.

  • We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  • We believe all mankind participated in Adam’s fall from his original sinless state and is thus lost in sin and totally helpless.

  • We believe that salvation is by God alone, and He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith.

  • We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God’s people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow him.

  • We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the lordship of Jesus Christ.

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him alone for salvation.

  • We believe baptism is a sign of God’s covenant and is properly administered to children of believers in their infancy as well as to those who come as adults to trust in Christ.

  • We believe Jesus Christ will return to earth, visibly and bodily, at a time when He is not expected, to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.
